The Academy Village is a very unique active adult retirement community. With golf-oriented 55+ communities aplenty, Academy Village takes a different approach to retirement by focusing on life-long learning, wellness, and personal enrichment. Professionals from academia, architecture, artists, musicians, and others who prefer a more intellectual approach to their retirement years will find a fulfilling and stimulating atmosphere at Academy Village.
The Academy Village is a three time award winner of the prestigious bi-annual "America's 100 Best Master-Planned Communities" from Where to Retire magazine.
Situated on 168 acres just east of Tucson in the scenic Rincon Valley, Academy Village offers residents limitless possibilities for personal growth, creativity, and wellness. You'll find both townhomes and single-family residences here, plus a community center, pool, exercise facilities, wellness center and an on-site learning institution that offers lectures, concerts and more.
At the heart of Academy Village is the Community Center and The Arizona Senior Academy (ASA). The ASA is a non-profit organization devoted to life-long learning, thinking, and doing. It is a source of educational and cultural programs that complement the health and wellness programs, services, and social events provided by the Village Homeowner's Association. Members of ASA include all residents of the community as well as non-residents from Tucson and around the country.
The Academy was founded by Dr. Henry Koffler, President Emeritus of the University of Arizona, and his mission was two-fold: To create a community whose residents would have easy access to life-long learning and also have the opportunity to give back to the larger community. The Academy Village community is a supportive group of men and women who have discovered a new way of aging. On any given day, you may find a presentation on local geology, a yoga class, a first-rate concert, an art group exploring watercolors, a guest lecturer speaking on music theory, or a resident leading a discussion on astronomy. It also provides opportunities for residents to work with local youth through school presentations and mentoring programs.
Throughout the year, Academy members are provided with programs, seminars, and concerts. A wide range of courses have been offered covering a variety of topics including Medical Research, Modern Music, Biotechnology, Global Change, Chamber Music, American Literature and Anthropology.
Community service is a major interest among residents of the Village. Academy Village residents have made school presentations, mentored students, served as Science Fair judges, been "book share buddies" and sponsored aspiring young musicians.
The Senior Academy is complemented by the Homeowner's Association, which, in addition to providing trash removal and general maintenance, offers wellness and fitness programs at the Community Center.
The Wellness Center provides residents with a comprehensive wellness advocacy program. It is currently funded through Homeowner's Association dues, and most of the services provided are free to the residents. The Wellness Center is staffed by a Registered Nurse five days a week and offers health education, blood pressure checks and flu shots, as well as a Home Healthcare Aid that will go to the home on a fee-for-service basis.
The fully-equipped Fitness Center features a heated pool and lighted tennis courts all with a gorgeous view of the Rincon Mountains.
The Village offers a full-service dining room that serves meals six days a week. They also offer take-out and delivery meals as well as special needs meals. Gourmet wine dinners are offered about every six weeks.
The Academy Café, a popular feature of the community center, offers weekday lunches, weekly scheduled dinners and meals on special occasions.
Academy Village offers single-family homes (five floor plans) and townhomes (three floor plans) with well designed floor plans and open, spacious rooms designed to accommodate a casual Southwestern lifestyle.
Homes are clustered in groups of four, with a single driveway into each cluster to ensure privacy and some spectacular views. Townhomes are limited to four - six units per building, and each unit has a patio and garden.
All single-family designs and townhouse models offer a variety of bedroom layouts, kitchen and family room combinations, formal living and dining room areas and utility rooms. All homes are single level and some homes have a casita option as well.
Single family homes range from 1,680 to 3,614 square feet that include many upgrades such as travertine tile, granite countertops, large covered patios, maple cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and 2-car garages. Townhomes range between 934 to 1,443 square feet. Both new and resale homes are available.
The Village is located in the Rincon Valley just east of Tucson, Arizona which offers many art and cultural venues, beautiful scenery, and great weather. It's the ideal setting for an independent, active adult lifestyle.
In this beautiful valley you will find a quiet and peaceful country setting close by the conveniences of modern life. Rapid growth in Tucson has left the Rincon Valley as one of a few semi-rural areas with plenty of open space and views missing from other parts of the city. In 1991, The Rincon Institute, located at the Village, was founded as a nonprofit conservation organization to protect the natural resources of Saguaro National Park East and adjoining lands of the Rincon Valley.
Tucson (population 800,000) is just a seven minute drive to the west and is home to museums, ballet, opera, art galleries, shops, outstanding restaurants and twenty golf courses. The University of Arizona also brings live theater, dance and music shows to campus each year.
